House Acquisition

5.21.01 Everything before this was part of the search and seizure
5.21.01 While Kristie counts cds, Steve gets to work on the long overdue announcement and on these updates.
5.22.01 Steve and his father ensure that the previous owner is out and his remaining items are in by changing most of the locks. The first things moved in are the duck and the turtle from Steve's truck.
5.23.01 Steve and his father change the rest of the locks. Steve actually moves some wedding gifts and personal possessions to the house. Kristie sends an email to some turtle rehabilitators asking for turtle pond specifications.
5.24.01 Steve arranges a half day off and furniture and appliances are delivered. The new phone is installed. A television is brought to the house so cable can be installed. Little success is had in installing the washer and dryer as more parts are needed.
5.25.01 Steve's mom hangs out at the house waiting for the cable guy. She reports that the picture is good. Steve works until 10:00pm1.
5.26.01 The new house lies vacant and unused all day2 as Steve reports to work at 8:00 am and leaves well after dark.
5.27.01 The new house lies vacant and unused all day as Steve reports to work at 8:00 am and leaves well after dark3.
5.28.01 The big project breaks up early (about 1:00); Steve purchases an Entertainment Center and mows the lawn at the house for the first time. As darkness falls, he heads out to buy shrub clippers.
5.29.01 Steve gets paint samples, clips the shrubs (well, some of them), and throws out lots and lots of hay which he later discovers the previous owner had purchased at Halloween.
5.30.01 Steve and Tim meet the neighbor, but they don't learn her name either. The entertainment center is installed and Dungeons and Dragons: The Movie is watched; Steve, Lou, Tim, Joe, and Jim are on hand.
5.31.01 Kristie comes to Detroit for a visit and she and Steve spend their first night in the new house (nope, neither had slept there before - in fact Steve had to hustle a bed over there that night).
6.1.01 Kristie spends the day unpacking boxes and trying not to notice that Steve hasn't done much besides install the entertainment center. They have KFC for dinner
6.2.01 Kristie cooks the first real meal in the new place, pot roast! Steve enjoys the leftovers on several succeeding days. The wires for the entertainment center are relocated and much weeding is done (guess who did which?)
6.3.01 The new computer is purchased as are a number of household items and five bookshelves4. Kristie departs to finish out her school year.
6.4.01 Steve finishes the washer installation and does the first load of clothes in the washer. He also cooks his first meal in the new place.
6.6.01 Steve installs the dryer and dries his first load of clothes.
6.10.01 Steve returns from Marion with the official bed and installs it. He tries to move the desk. He does move the computer and signs on for the first time from the new house.
6.11.01 Cable Modem!
6.16.01 Kristie returns bringing another load of junk her things and news of our bundle of joy.
6.17.01 Steve and Kristie do some gardening and experience the joys of Home Depot.
6.18.01 Steve successfully outwaits Kristie and she begins painting the bathroom.
6.19.01 The bathroom is finished.
6.23.01 Steve and Tim head north taking a washer & dryer with them. Many of Kristie's things (and Kristie) are returned to the house. Despite a harrowing5 traffic incident, Kristie's Mom & Dad also help with the move. The place looks like a home with couches and everything now. Lou conveniently arrives just about the same time as the pizza6.
6.25.01 Kristie begins using the leftover paint to paint the pantry. On a roll, she does the hallway closet too.
6.28.01 Steve moves a truckload of games to the new place. Another truckload (at least) still needs to be moved - Tim is once again drafted to help with the move.
6.30.01 from here, we go to the ongoing part of our homeowning.
  1. The big project is launching on 5.28.01.
  2. It's probably starting to feel like a piece of exercise equipment.
  3. Sadly, this is not the same entry accidentally made twice
  4. Hopefully it'll be enough - they were on sale for 29.99 regular 89.99.
  5. Seriously, a car pulling another car on a trailer managed to jackknife as Kristie's Mom & Dad passed it.
  6. Lou might think this is unfair, but we have a web page and he doesn't.
