Lights Out

A couple of days before the wedding, the hotel in Three Rivers called to warn us their pool was out. After we assured them we didn't mind and thanked them for the call, they hung up. We were pretty impressed with their service - calling and giving us a chance to cancel/change our reservations was pretty nice of them.

It was, unfortunately, a harbinger of things to come.

We arrived Friday and everything was fine. We went to dinner at the Rocky River Cafe which was also good. Sometime late Friday night or early Saturday morning, the power went off at the hotel.

This wouldn't have been a big deal except for two things. First, Steve's CPAP machine, which makes sure he breaths all night, runs on house current. Second, the failure somehow scrambled the elevator. Normally the scrambled elevator would be no big deal since the hotel had only two floors, but thanks to a previous complication, Steve wasn't exactly in prime stair-climbing condition1. Luckily, he woke up early and, after 15 minutes, was able to negotiate the stairs relatively pain-free.

  1. Some would argue that Steve is never in prime stair-condition. He'd probably agree, but point out that the cast made it worse than usual.
