Red Plate Prognostication

So yesterday (August 8) was a pretty good day. One of Kristie's cousins had a new baby and Mel-NAP finally hired Kristie to a real live full-time job.

Steve and Kristie made plans to attend the board meeting where they voted to hire her and Steve made dinner and served Kristie's on the red plate1. Kristie complained that Steve was jumping the gun since she hadn't signed a contract or actually been hired yet. Steve said it was a done deal so it counted.

A few minutes later we went to the meeting. The actual hiring was a bit anti-climactic since Kristie's hiring was part of the "consent agenda" and didn't even come up by name. The meeting lasted about an hour including a few reports, public comment and some items from the staff2.

After the meeting the board secretary came to Kristie to have her sign her contract3.

  1. The Red Plate is reserved for days when one of us does something really good.
  2. My personal fave was a citizen who complained about small children driving a golf cart on the track at the high school only to have a board member later say it was her grandchildren doing it.
  3. Thus proving Steve's red plate premonition was wholly correct.
