Ogre the Mean

One evening, Kristie came into the office carrying Ogre. She told me that he was the meanest turtle she'd ever seen. As proof she had me be quiet while she waggled her finger at him. He hissed¹ at her and, when she moved her finger closer, actually snapped² at it.

I said that was interesting³ and returned to my work. She of course decided that the turtle's agression should be demonstrated and moved him closer to my head. I flinched⁴ and she laughed.

She eventually settled down and admitted the turtle might have bit my ear. She said "He's so mean, he'd probably bite Syd." She then knelt down to introduce them to each other. As she moved the turtle closer, I suddenly heard a yip.

She was right, he was that mean.

1. No, really. It's kind of a strange sound and a stranger feeling to have a turtle hissing at you.
2. Remember, he's not a snapping turtle (at least not by birth).
3. It was a little interesting, but not as interesting as what I had been doing until that point.
4. I find myself doing that a lot more now that I live with her.
