Celebrity Syd

Despite Steve's objections1, Kristie decided that Syd should come to the Renaissance Festival with us the first weekend we had him. She brought him out and on Saturday he spent most of the day either looking fierce2 or sleeping out of sight in an old blanket. Truth be told, it went better than Steve had any reason to hope it would.

On Saturday night we took him to spend the night with us at our friend Debra's where he was an instant hit with Em and Em3. After about 3 seconds of coercion4 , Kristie caved in and agreed they could take Syd with them to the Children's Dell.

Syd spent his day in the Children's Dell where he was, not surprisingly, a hit5. Around 6:00pm Kristie went to pick him up so the Ems wouldn't have to deal with him at closing. Walking him back to the Information Booth took twice as long as she expected because every few feet she was stopped by somebody who asked, "Is that Syd6?"

  1. Not the least of which was the number of times he'd made fun of people for doing it.
  2. As fierce as a six pound dog can manage.
  3. Debra's daughter Emily has a best friend who is also named Emily.
  4. I said it went better than expected, not that it actually went well.
  5. For some reason, nearly everyone likes the little punk.
  6. Kristie's decision that he needed fairy wings may have made it a little more obvious.
