Worst Nightmare!

It was 6:00 am Saturday morning and a frantic struggle was well under way. One of our pets was trapped on its back and couldn't right itself. Kristie and I were, unsurprisingly, completely unaware of this life or death struggle since we were both slumbering away.

Meanwhile, the struggle was getting worse, rocking right, then left but to no avail. Trying to catch a toe-hold1, anything just to get a chance to get righted and breathe easily again. Nothing worked. The struggle became louder.

Kristie awakened and, despite her diminished capacity2, she knew something was wrong. An odd noise had awakened her. She sensed that one of our pets was locked in a battle with death.

She paused, gathering her wits until at last she recognized the sound she heard then reached down and helped Snuggles

  1. Technically, I think all our pets actually have claws.
  2. Anyone who's ever seen here in the mornign will understand this.
