Bandy Goes Home

It was kind of a sad day when Bandy finally left Kristie's little house in Marion. Sure, she had ruined a lot of things, and yes, she had terrorized poor Snuggles, but she really was a nice dog, just a little too energetic for 600 square feet of house.

Steve cleaned out the back of his extended cab and they loaded Bandy in. She laid quietly in the back, chewing on dog toys and one of Kristie's shoes. She and Kristie had said their goodbyes and now she was going to meet her new owners, a nice couple with a big yard and an older lab1

Steve pulled out of the driveway and down to the end of the block. Kristie called to say goodbye one more time. Steve, with the phone in his hand, tried to pull onto the dangerous 131. As he spotted a narrow opening, he gunned it.

The car lurched forward about 5' then came to a halt. Bandy's head appeared and she began licking him. As Steve tried to figure out what was wrong with his car, get rid of Bandy, and get out of the intersection, he noticed the problem. Bandy had shifted the car, with it's floor-mounted shift-lever, into neutral.

Pushing her into the back with his elbow as he put it back into drive, Steve got into the next opening as Kristie continued to laugh at his predicament.

  1. Most pet books said the best way to deal with a lab puppy was to have an older lab around to teach it manners.
