Dora's Big Break
We live next door to the railroad tracks. This is a pretty popular spot with our neighbors, since no one yells at you to pick up after your dog when you're over there. As a result, lots of dogs go there every day.
Dora always felt left out because we don't take her over there very often. One morning, as Kristie prepared to visit Steve in the hospital1, Dora got her big break in the form of an open gate. She immediately ran for the tracks.
Normally, when Dora gets out of the yard, Kristie tries to call her and keep an eye on her while Steve (older and wiser2) usually shakes a box of dog biscuits until she returns. With no Steve there, Kristie had to chase her nearly a mile before she caught up with her.
When she did catch her, she grabbed Dora by the collar since she had no leash, and walked her home. Dora, not used to this approach, tried to drag Kristie to the house and subsequently walked all the way back on her hind legs.
To date Dora has had six or seven big breaks, but not once when Steve was home alone.
