Helpful Doggies!

One Friday in May Kristie only worked a half-day and decided she'd take advantage of it to make a pot roast1. She put the whole meal in the oven (potatoes, onions, potroast) and baked it for hours. When her lucky husband arrived home, she pulled the meal out to cool2 and, after a suitable time, called Steve in to enjoy it.

As is their habit, they dished out the food and adjourned to the living room to watch some TV during dinner3. The pot roast was good and, after finishing off a pretty good helping, Steve went out for seconds. They finished at about the same time4 and set their plates aside while they watched the end of the show.

Dora came into the room licking her chops5 and immediately ran over and jumped on Steve who joked that "she smells like pot roast". Kristie called Dora over, sniffed her, and announced that Steve was wrong.

During a commercial Steve grabbed both plates and headed for the kitchen. He was after a cookie and asked Kristie if she wanted one too. Kristie didn't hear him and followed him out to the kitchen to see what he wanted. When she got there she noticed the empty roaster and asked Steve "Did you put the pot roast away?"

"No" came the reply and as Steve turned to see what she was talking about, he noticed the pot roast6 was on the floor. Dora had, in fact, managed to get a little self-serve pot roast.

  1. Believe it or not, Kristie makes a good pot roast.
  2. Kristie pretty much insists that all hot food be cooled before it gets eaten.
  3. Steve says they do this because it's relaxing, Kristie says it's because Steve has taken all the chairs downstairs for his gaming buddies.
  4. Kristie eats very slowly.
  5. Never a good sign.
  6. Technically, only a small part of the pot roast was left.
