SYD
Origin Story
SYD came to us on September 22, 2002. We were returning from a tough weekend at the Festival and spotted him walking out to the pizza guy's car at Steve's mom's house. At first, we thought he was with the pizza guy, but he just drove off and left him.
Kristie called him over just as Steve's mom came out to see what was going on. She reported that the dog might belong to her neighbors since it had been in their yard all day. Checking with them revealed that it was a stray they had fed and cleaned up before it got too loud and was put back outside still damp from the bath1.
Fearing the wrath of Ginger, the dog was tucked in the car while we ate, then brought to our house until the owners could be found.
Current Information
SYD was named2 the following morning. He is named partly in honor of Kristie's mom's dog SAM (Short Ass Mongrel3) and his name is SYD (Small Yappy Dog4).
We had him four days before Kristie asked if we could keep him6.
Photos
- Steve's mom's neighbors are notoriously bad with pets.
- Steve knew he was in trouble at that point.
- According her dad anyhow, her mom says he's named after Sam Elliot.
- Interestingly, he was given the name based on the neighbor's story; he really doesn't bark much, not that he doesn't have another annoying habit7.
- Frankly, most people were surprised it took her that long. Steve suspects she'd made her mind up Sunday and just took 'til Thursday to tell him what she'd decided.
- During those days we had him scanned for a chip (nope), checked the lost and founds in three different papers on different days (nope), and called several local dog pounds (nope).
- No, we're not saying what it is, but we are saying that we hope the habit will be "fixed" when he is.
