Herbie

Origin Story

Herbie is a Sulcata Tortoise, which means he will likely outlive anyone who reads this page this year. Kristie had asked after a different sulcata at a pet shop in Cadillac. They had already sold that Sulcata so Kristie brought hom Gus. A month or two later they called to say they'd gotten another Sulcata. Kristie brought him home one weekend when she went up to see her grandparents.

His name comes from his status as a herbivore and his slight resemblance to a VW Beetle (shape-wise) which Kristie decided meant he looked like "Herbie the Love Bug". Steve's suggestion that the african tortoise be named Toby was rejected (probably wisely) out of hand.

Current Information

Herbie has been much more active since Gus' departure. We aren't sure if it's the chance for freedom or not sharing his space with a bigger tortoise that has prompted this, but it is very cool.
